(Senior) Backend Developer Python (m/f/d)

We from Mindpeak are a start-up that creates diagnosis support tools in cancer diagnostics with artificial intelligence. Since 2017, our mission is to make microscopical and pathological analysis more efficient, precise and accessible  for everyone.

With our team of currently 12 dedicated innovators and medical game changers, we build support tools for visual diagnosis using state-of-the-art deep learning. Our tools assist cancer experts in providing reliable and reproducible diagnoses. Optimizing cancer diagnostics with machine learning is challenging and requires the brightest minds. That’s why we want you.

Become part of MindPeak and shape with us the future of cancer diagnostics!

As a (Senior) Software Developer, Python and part of the dev team, you will be a key driver in building our tools for labs  and shape our technologies from the start. There are big challenges in the field of digital pathology like large images with file sizes of several gigabytes per image and dimensions of 100.000 x 100.000 pixels. These need to be streamed efficiently by an image server and you will work on such solutions.

While the data science team at MindPeak focuses on the development of the machine learning models via AI, the dev team’s task is to ensure that these models are efficiently served as APIs and can be used by various stakeholders. You will be responsible for the development of our backend (and partly frontend) and will be working closely together with your colleagues of the data science team

A well-engineered product will be fundamental in our mission to make pathology accessible to everyone in the world. You will be directly reporting to the CIO.

Your tasks:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve our software to serve machine learning models in production with high quality, maintainable code
  • Build automation tools which help to make the workflow for our data annotation pipeline as efficiently as possible
  • Help us shape the best digital pathology tools by using state of the art technologies like Docker, AWS, Python and JavaScript
  • Integrate existing pathology hardware and software solutions (scanners, image viewers, databases) with our system into automated workflows
  • Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables
  • Collaborate with product, design, front-end, deep learning, and infrastructure specialists to ensure a smooth daily workflow
  • Getting things done by taking into account which approach works best for the current task

Your profile:

  • MSc degree in Computer Science, similar field of study or equivalent practical experience
  • At least 3-5 years of professional working experience with influential work on products
  • Software development experience with a strong background in Python and web development (JavaScript and CSS knowledge is a plus)
  • Curiosity for technical hardware devices and experience in interfacing them using APIs
  • Ability to work in a fast changing, highly dynamic work environment with changing priorities
  • Curiosity to understand the technological ecosystem in the laboratory like the combination of whole-slide scanners and image viewers
  • Enjoying interdisciplinary teamwork, thinking outside the box
  • Ability to work autonomously on your own projects
  • Good analytical skills and the motivation to constantly learn, mentor, and share knowledge with others along the way.
  • Experience working with Linux and Docker
  • Fluent in English, additional German is a plus

We offer

  • The opportunity to bring cancer diagnostics to a whole new level
  • An open and creative work environment
  • Flat hierarchies and quick decisions
  • Exchange of knowledge and close cooperation with competent colleagues in a highly motivated international team with an experienced management team
  • Exciting and diverse tasks and projects where you can develop your skills and expertise
